Backyard Mojitos From Havana at The Mann

You can enjoy your own backyard mojitos. A great mojito takes a little advance effort, but you can make a summer’s worth of mint syrup and store it in your refrigerator.

Backyard Mojitos
From Havana at The Mann
(Makes 12 Mojitos)


Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
2 oz fresh mint by volume (1/4 cup of compressed leaves)
1 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (accept no substitutes!)
9 oz rum
Seltzer

To prepare the mint syrup
Combine sugar and water in a pot and bring to a simmer until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and add mint. Allow to steep for an hour or over night. Strain.

To make a mojito
Fill a 12 oz glass two thirds with ice and pour over 3/4 oz rum, 1 oz syrup, 1 oz lime juice – stir, top with seltzer and stir again. Garnish with squeezed lime wedge.

Recipe can be multiplied without alteration.
