This fall and winter, experience Vikings: Beyond the Legend, the largest-ever collection of Vikings era artifacts to visit North America. On display through March 3, Vikings is an immersive exhibition that reveals fresh insights through the latest archaeological discoveries showing the evolution of Viking age, and providing a more accurate portrayal of the Vikings as skilled artisans, farmers, traders, and explorers. Featuring more than 600 original artifacts and dramatic reconstructions on loan from The National Museum of Denmark, including the exhibit’s centerpiece, a recreation of the Roskilde 6—the largest Viking ship ever discovered, which incorporates some of the original ship remains as well as interactive augmented reality. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness these stunning artifacts and engage with history as you lift replica Viking weaponry, try on period clothes, and even try your hand at rowing a Viking ship.
Fun family-friendly programs this fall range from talks on food science and history to festive holiday events. A free speaker series event, “Coming to Our Senses” explores the ways our biology can affect our food habits, while an exciting “Polar Express” day explores some of the science behind the wintery weather. A special holiday-themed Science After Hours event and a “Noon Year’s Eve” event for families help close out an exciting and eventful 2018.
